Sustainability is incorporated into the day-to-day operating decisions at Mantra Tonsley Adelaide, with a focus on reducing unnecessary waste, water and energy consumption while supporting the local Tonsley community. As a relatively new hotel within the Tonsley Innovation Precinct, the focus is on finding practical ways to improve environmental performance while maintaining the comfort and service guests expect.

Amenities
Guest rooms feature eco-friendly bath products, with unnecessary single-use items minimised wherever practical. Rather than relying on individual bottled water, filtered drinking water stations are available throughout the hotel, supporting refillable water use. Guest-room consumables and packaging continue to be reviewed with waste reduction in mind.
Waste Management
Waste reduction is built into the hotel’s operational practices, with recyclable streams, including cardboard and other recyclable materials, separated from general waste where facilities permit. The Food & Beverage team limits avoidable waste through purchasing, stock control and responsible preparation, with ongoing work to improve waste separation and diversion from landfill.

Sustainable Housekeeping
Housekeeping is designed to reduce unnecessary laundering, water use, energy consumption and cleaning chemicals. Rooms are serviced on request rather than automatically each day, with long-stay rooms serviced weekly and linen generally changed every three days unless a guest requests otherwise. Guest laundry facilities are also available for extended stays, and in-house laundry solutions have been trialled for selected long-stay corporate guests to reduce the need for external trips and services.

Food, Beverage & Events
Tonsley Terrace Bar & Bistro applies practical waste-reduction principles through purchasing, stock management, menu planning and responsible portioning, working with South Australian and local suppliers where possible. Positioned as a neighbourhood and precinct dining venue as well as a hotel restaurant, it helps build stronger connections with the local community. The same approach carries through to meetings and events, which make use of existing hotel facilities and catering rather than disposable or highly packaged alternatives wherever practical. Catering is tailored to actual delegate numbers in partnership with local businesses, Flinders University, government, healthcare and industry groups, helping to minimise over-catering and unnecessary waste.
Guest & Team Engagement
Sustainability at Mantra Tonsley is treated as a shared responsibility across departments, with team members encouraged to consider waste, energy, water and purchasing impacts in everyday decisions.
